A train linking Delhi to Mumbai is expected to run at an alternative timetable in case Prime Minister Narendra Modi fails to show up at a scheduled meeting of the Indian Railway Ministry at 3 p.m.
IST on Tuesday.
The rail ministry has confirmed that it will take “all necessary action” to prevent trains from being diverted.
A statement issued by the ministry said that “a train service will not be possible between Delhi or Mumbai as the PM will not attend the meeting.”
If the PM does not show up to the meeting, the railway will “make arrangements for alternative trains” to connect to Mumbai, the statement added.
The ministry had earlier said that the PM would attend the session if he can be reached within the hour.
The statement comes a day after a train between Mumbai and Delhi was diverted due to high winds.
