Key points:The train collided with a freight truck and a rail yardThe rail yard was evacuated after the incidentOn the scene:A spokesman for Queensland’s Civil Defence Authority said the derailment was caused by a freight train, which had struck a freight yard.
The rail accident occurred on the night of Saturday, August 11.
The accident happened in the north-west corner of the state, about 200 kilometres (124 miles) south of the town of Dibs.
“The rail truck and the freight yard are both located in the area and there are no other vehicles involved in the accident,” QCB spokesperson Chris Prewitt said.
“Our thoughts are with the families of those involved and the injured in this tragic accident.”
We have evacuated the area to prevent any further damage.
“The railyard was evacuated for several hours, but the track and yard were reopened by Monday morning.
The track was reopened by Wednesday afternoon, but it is not yet clear if the accident will be investigated.”
It’s just a bit of a mystery,” Mr Prewett said.QCB spokesperson Scott Evans said it was a bit odd that the railyard and freight yard were both in the same area.”
I guess we’ll never know for sure but we will continue to work with the state government and get the facts out there and get this right,” he said.ABC/wiresTopics:rail-road,rail-safety,bureau-of-territory-and-federal-government,state-parliament,brisbane-4000,qld,canberra-2600,vic,brisbanon-4350More stories from Queensland
